Marrakech is the perfect base for exploring southern Morocco. Within a couple of hours you can reach waterfalls, mountains, deserts and the Atlantic coast. Here are our favourite private day trips, all guided by Azeroual Mbarek.
1. Ourika Valley
Just an hour away, the green Ourika Valley offers Berber villages, a river and the seven waterfalls of Setti Fatma. Perfect for a cool, scenic day in the High Atlas.
2. Essaouira
The blue-and-white Atlantic port of Essaouira is famous for its UNESCO medina, ramparts and fresh seafood — a relaxed change of pace from the city.
3. Ouzoud Waterfalls
Morocco’s tallest waterfalls (110 m) come with wild Barbary monkeys and a boat ride to the base. One of the most spectacular day trips of all.
4. Ait Ben Haddou & Ouarzazate
Cross the High Atlas to the UNESCO kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a famous film location, and the studios of Ouarzazate.
5. Agafay Desert
Only 40 minutes away, the rocky Agafay desert is ideal for a sunset camel ride and dinner under the stars — without a long drive.
6. Imlil & the Atlas Mountains
Hike among Berber villages beneath Mount Toubkal, North Africa’s highest peak, with a traditional mountain lunch.
Which day trip is right for you?
For nature and an easy pace, choose Ourika or Ouzoud. For culture, choose Ait Ben Haddou or Essaouira. For a desert taste close to the city, choose Agafay. Whatever you pick, every trip is private and tailored to you — just send a message and we’ll plan it together.
